Fun with Jars

I wanted to practice making lidded vessels, and here is what came out of it!  Also, I love these two glazes and how they play with the slip.

Short and Wide

Weight towards the bottom

Little more girth at the top

I am very happy with how they finished.  No lids stuck or anything!

Time

I seem to be very good at avoiding blogging.  It is helpful for me to look at my pieces and try to decide what could make them better.  Just keep trying!

Small lidded box before and after.  I wanted to test using different glazes between the slip trailing, though I am not in love with the outcome.

Another box, I have been enjoying exploring them.  I like the color combination here but I wish it had a handle.

New kind of box!  Here I was testing out a different and it came out very... Aztec feeling.

A nice form for a medium bowl.  It allows for slip trailing on the inside.

Christmas ornaments!  I just finished these 6.  The smallest ones are just under 2 inches, while the larger ones are around 5 inches.  They each have a trimmed foot and instead of drilling a hole in them to hang from, I am looking for a complimentary wire or string to wrap around the neck.  Can't wait to see how they come out!

Kiln Presents

The other day I got some wonderful gifts from the glaze kiln!  I was using these bottles as tests for two glazes.  One is celadon and the other is an opal.

I also finally glazed one of my boxes, and the lid didn't even stick!

And then my first attempt at a goblet/chalice or whatever!  I just recently found this glaze combination and I quite enjoy it.

New Things

The last two weeks have been quite interesting.  I set up a display of my pieces at Manassas Clay.  It is great to see my work out there!

I chose to go with some variety, though not many large pieces.  Things seem to be going well.  I have stoneware and porcelain pieces here.   I need to find a way to spruce it up though (Manassas Clay is a shop front but also a working studio which you can see in the background).
I have been working on some new slip trailed pieces.  It is difficult finding a direction I wish to move now that I do not have school assignments to fulfill.  For now I hope to create pieces which excite me and those who see them.
These are quick pictures of two of the lidded vessels I have recently completed.

And yet another "unique" photo of a box I made.  It is difficult to define where the sliptrailing should end sometimes but these panels really helped in defining the edge.
I guess that's all for now.  I hope to make this a more common thing!

A Little Studio Success

It was so easy to sit and throw a whole bunch of pieces at school, but this Summer I haven't gotten much done in one sitting.  Today went well!  I used up all the clay that I had on hand, I really need to reclaim more soon...  Here are some quick and easy shots of my days work.

These are made with Standard's 153 stoneware.  Some mugs, bowls and who knows what else.

Just six small porcelain bowls.  I actually ended up with six of another shape but no photo!

     Good Day!

First Day

I figure I should get off my butt and start this blog.  I'm not sure how often or how I will update this but we will see!  I will share my ceramic pieces and who knows what else.
